This book was another excellent recommendation from my naughty fantasy queen, booknof.
Auren is the favorite golden girl (literally) of King Midas, just like the golden cage in which she spends her days. 💫
Midas saved her from a terrible life and in return she gave him her love and trust, even if it meant being imprisoned. 🙏
It felt like a fair deal to her at the time, but when war breaks out, she begins to realize that a cage is still a cage, even if it's a beautiful one… and everything she thought she knew about Midas, may be completely wrong. 💥💥💥

It's a wonderful retelling of the story of King Midas from the Greek mythology with surprising twists, interesting characters, an ingeniously constructed world and a slow burn that explodes into an entire chapter where I blushed and giggled like a little girl. 😂🙈🔥
Although the first book felt slow to me, but after some surprising twists came, the plot started to flow and I was hooked… from there it just got better and better! (I finished the third book biting my nails and screaming out loud!!!) 😱

The writing style is amazing, much more than I expect from fantasy books. The world building was just incredible – I loved the balance between the explanation about the world in which the story takes place and the plot itself. 💫
But what I liked the most is that the information the reader receives is limited to a little bit at a time, and that made me gasp every time something new and surprising was discovered. 👏

I did guess some of the twists, maybe because the storylines reminded me a bit of ACOTAR in the romance part, but I didn't mind. 💥
Plus, until the end of the third book I thought Auren's character was annoyingly weak and submissive (what are you doing, you dumbass?! 🤦♀️) but when you consider the fact that she is clearly dealing with some kind of Stockholm syndrome, I think her characterization was very reasonable and realistic. 🤷♀️
And the male character? HOLY MOLLY!!! 🔥🔥🔥

So after I finished listening to the first three books in the series, I am now taking a break. At least until the fifth and last book comes out, on 8.6.23. 😂⏳️

ארן היא הנערה המוזהבת (ליטרלי) המועדפת של המלך מידאס, בדיוק כמו הכלוב הזהוב שבו היא מבלה את ימיה. 💫
מידאס הציל אותה מחיים איומים והיא בתמורה נתנה לו את אהבתה ואמונה, גם אם זה אומר להיות כלואה. 🙏
זה הרגיש לה כמו עסקה הוגנת בזמנו, אך כאשר מלחמה מתחילה, היא מתחילה להבין שכלוב הוא עדיין כלוב, גם אם הוא יפהפה… וכל מה שחשבה שהיא יודעת על מידאס, עלול להיות לגמרי לא נכון. 💥💥💥

זה סוג של שחזור (retale) לסיפור על המלך מידאס מהמיתולוגיה היוונית עם טוויסטים מפתיעים, דמויות מעניינות, עולם שבנוי בצורה גאונית וסלואו ברן שמתפוצץ לפרק שלם בו הסמקתי וצחקקתי כמו ילדה קטנה. 😂🙈🔥
אמנם הספר הראשון הרגיש לי איטי, אבל אחרי שהגיעו כמה טוויסטים מפתיעים, העלילה התחילה לזרום והתמכרתי… משם זה רק הלך והשתבח! (את הספר השלישי סיימתי כוססת ציפורניים וצורחת בקול!!!) 😱

סגנון הכתיבה מדהים, הרבה יותר ממה שאני מצפה מספרי פנטזיה. גם בניית העולם הייתה פשוט נהדרת – אהבתי את האיזון בין ההסבר על העולם בו מתרחש הסיפור והעלילה עצמה. 💫
אבל מה שהכי אהבתי הוא שהמידע שהקורא מקבל, מוגבל לקצת בכל פעם, וגרם לי לפעור פה בכל רגע שהתגלה משהו חדש ומפתיע. 👏

אמנם ניחשתי כמה מהטוויסטים, אולי בגלל שקווי העלילה הזכירו לי קצת את ACOTAR בקטע הרומנטי, אבל זה לא הפריע לי. 💥
מה שכן, עד סוף הספר השלישי חשבתי שהדמות של ארן חלשה וכנועה בצורה מעצבנת (מה את עושה, מטומטמת?! 🤦♀️) אבל כשחושבים על העובדה שהיא בבירור מתמודדת עם סוג של תסמונת שטוקהולם, אני חושבת שהאפיון שלה היה מאוד הגיוני ומציאותי. 🤷♀️
והדמות הגברית? וואי וואי וואי!!! 🔥🔥🔥

אז אחרי שסיימתי לשמוע ברצף את שלושת הספרים הראשונים בסדרה, אני עושה עכשיו הפסקה. לפחות עד שייצא הספר החמישי והאחרון, ב- 8.6.23. 😂⏳️
