לקריאת הסקירה בעברית – תגללו למטה!

After the fireworks on 4th of July, 8-year-old Oliver Lynch disappeared and has since been declared missing. 22 years later, he returns home after escaping the basement he was being held in. 🖤
Now, at 30, Oliver is trying to adjust to all that has changed since he disappeared and especially to his intense feelings for Sydney, his next door neighbor and childhood best friend. The woman whose been with him in the basement all those years, while he painted her in his comic book drawings. 🌸
The day Oliver disappeared, Sydney's life changed and her heart never recovered… she got her best friend back, but their attraction could ruin everything and make her hurt again.💥
Will their friendship survive? What happened all those years ago? Why was Oliver abducted? And what does the lotus mean? 😱😱😱

It may sound bad, but what bothered me the most was that this book wasn't heartbreaking enough. 😬
I loved 'Still Beating' (I gave it 5 stars!) so much because it was so raw and realistic… and if you ask me, this book had the potential to be a lot tougher, but something was missing. 🙈

The plot started with a big 'BANG', but later dragged on and felt too long. On the other hand, so many things happened towards the end (I was completely surprised about the lotus discovery!!!) so it was a bummer that almost nothing happened in the middle… 😬

📚 “I ache for you, Sydney,” Oliver rasps, one hand curling behind my head, fisting my hair. “I crave to be inside you more than I craved freedom in all of those twenty-two years combined.” 📚

Oliver was a great character. But Sydney, ummm… I coudn't understand her and didn't like her. 🙈
She claimed she was so traumatized by his abduction, which made her only look for physical relationships for fear of getting hurt… but she was only 6, their relationship wasn't romantic or at all significant at such a young age – so it didn't make sense to me. I would be happy if the author would have developed their relationship beyond that age to make their connection more believable and meaningful. 🤷‍♀️

📚 The Lotus will bloom into the most magnificent flower, even when its roots are in the murkiest of waters. 📚

To sum up, this book was good, but it could have been much deeper and interesting… yet, there is no doubt Jennifer Hartmann can write – and I can not wait to read her next book! 🌸

כעת, בגיל 30, אוליבר מנסה להסתגל לכל מה שהשתנה מאז שנעלם ובעיקר לרגשות העזים שיש לו כלפי סידני, האישה מהבית השכן וחברת הילדות שלו. זו שדמותה ליוותה אותו במרתף כל השנים, בזמן שצייר אותה בציורי הקומיקס שלו. 🌸
ביום שאוליבר נעלם, חייה של סידני השתנו והלב שלה מעולם לא החלים… היא קיבלה בחזרה את החבר הכי טוב שלה, אך המשיכה ביניהם עלולה להרוס הכל ולגרום לה להפגע שוב. 💥
האם החברות שלהם תעמוד בקשיים? מה קרה לפני כל אותם שנים? מדוע נחטף? ומה המשמעות של הלוטוס? 😱😱😱

אולי זה יישמע קצת רע, אבל מה שהכי הפריע לי, זה שהספר לא היה מספיק קורע לב. 😬
כל כך אהבתי את "עדיין פועם" (נתתי לו 5 כוכבים!) בגלל שהוא היה כל כך קשוח ומציאותי… ואם תשאלו אותי, לספר הזה היה פוטנציאל להיות הרבה יותר קשוח ממנו, אבל משהו התפספס לי בדרך. 🙈

העלילה התחילה ב'בום', אך בהמשך נגררה והרגישה ארוכה מידי. לעומת זאת, לקראת הסוף קרו כל כך הרבה דברים (לגמרי הופתעתי בנוגע לגילוי של הלוטוס!!!) אז חבל שבאמצע כמעט כלום לא קרה… 😬

אוליבר היה דמות נהדרת. אבל סידני, אמממ… לא התחברתי אליה, לא הבנתי אותה ולא חיבבתי אותה. 🙈
היא טענה שהייתה כל כך בטראומה מהחטיפה שלו, מה שגרם לה לחפש רק מערכות יחסים פיזיות, מחשש שתיפגע שוב… אבל היא הייתה רק בת 6, הקשר שלהם לא היה זוגי או בכלל משמעותי בגיל כה צעיר – אז זה לא היה הגיוני. הייתי שמחה אם הסופרת הייתה מפתחת את הקשר שלהם מעבר לגיל הזה כדי להפוך את החיבור ביניהם לאמין ומשמעותי יותר. 🤷‍♀️

לסיכום, הספר הזה היה טוב, אבל הוא יכל להיות הרבה יותר עמוק ומעניין… ולמרות זאת, אין ספק שג'ניפר הארטמן יודעת לכתוב – ואני לא יכולה לחכות לקרוא את הספר הבא שלה! 🌸
