According to legend, the gods were so fed up with Zeus ruling them, that they started a war and destroyed entire citiesโ€ฆ 
And so, every 100 years the gods gather and each chooses a mortal to represent them in 12 brutal trials, and the winnerโ€™s god becomes the new ruler.

When Lyra, a young thief cursed before she was even born by Zeus to be unloved was chosen by Hades, god of the Underworld, to represent him in the merciless competition, the gods begin to suspect Hades' intentions and will do anything to keep him from winning

Lyra must survive not only the challenges, but her own fate. As she battles her way through the trials, she begins to realize that Hades isn't what she thought, and their bond deepensโ€”but why did Hades enter the competition in the first place? And can Lyra break the curse that has haunted her entire life…?

My thoughts:
This book was so much fun, fast-paced read! I found myself googling every god mentioned just to learn more. 
I loved the writing, the tension, the blossoming romance between the characters, and especially the snarky banter. The short chapters and accessible fantasy world made it super engaging.

Itโ€™s described as "Percy Jackson" meets "The Hunger Games" for adultsโ€”and I totally agreeโ€”but to me, it felt like a mix between the Olympics and the myth of Hercules (the 12 labors).

And that ending?! Oh gods, I NEED the second book ASAP!!! ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ
