Rachel Rubinstein-Goldblatt is a successful Jewish author who writes romantic comedy books under a pen name about her (secretly, of course) favorite holiday… Christmas. 🙈😱
When her publisher asks her to write a Hanukkah romance, she decides to look for inspiration at the Jewish community center's Matzah Ball, organized by none other than the only man who broke her heart and her old nemesis from summer camp, Jacob Greenberg. 💜
Will the holiday of lights make her feel sparks for Hanukkah? And maybe also for Jacob…? 💥💥💥

📚 "So many people think Hanukkah is about miracles. But Hanukkah is really about fighting for the things you believe in. Everybody focuses on the oil, but there would have been no oil, no lamp and no miracle had the Maccabees not taken up arms and stormed that darn temple. That’s the thing people forget about Hanukkah. We make our own miracles, Rachel-la. We’re in charge of creating our own happy endings." 📚

There aren't many books about Hanukkah, so I was definitely excited to read it, especially because I read it with my dad! (He read the Hebrew version, and I read it in English)
It was a sweet and romantic book… exactly what I needed in these crazy days! I loved the reference to Jewish culture and tradition (woohoo!) and especially the awareness part in book: the MFC lives with myalgic encephalomyelitis (as does the author) – and this part was very interesting for me. 💜
What I didn't like was that towards the end, the plot dragged, and it also had all kinds of Yiddish terms that even I had to google, so I guess a non-Jews could feel frustrated… 🙈

All in all, it's an enemies to lovers story with a fan and sweet (and very predictable) plot, written in a third person pov. 🕎
If you feel like reading a kitschy romantic book about an awesome holiday that doesn't get mentioned a lot in romantic books… this is the book for you! 💥

And in case you were wondering… my dad really enjoyed this book, too. Although he complained about some translation and wording choices, he is definitely looking forward to reading the author's next book. 😍

כשההוצאה לאור שלה דורשת שתכתוב רומן לחנוכה, היא מחליטה לחפש השראה בנשף חנוכה של המרכז הקהילתי היהודי, אותו מארגן לא אחר מאשר הגבר היחיד ששבר לה את הלב והאוייב שלה עוד מימי מחנה הקיץ, ג'ייקוב גרינברג. 💜
האם חג האורות יגרום לה להרגיש ניצוצות כלפי חנוכה? ואולי גם כלפיי ג'ייקוב…? 💥💥💥

אין הרבה ספרים על חנוכה, אז בהחלט התרגשתי לקרוא אותו – ובעיקר, כי עשיתי קריאה משותפת עם אבא שלי! (הוא קרא בעברית ואני באנגלית).
זה היה ספר מתוק ורומנטי… וזה היה בדיוק מה שהייתי צריכה בימים הטרופים האלו! אהבתי את ההתייחסות לתרבות והמסורת היהודית (ווהוו!) ובעיקר את המודעות שהספר מייצג: הדמות הנשית הראשית חיה עם תשישות כרונית (כמו גם הסופרת) – והחלק הזה היה מאוד מעניין עבורי. 💜
מה שלא אהבתי הוא שהעלילה נגררה לקראת הסוף והיו בו גם כל מיני מונחים ביידיש שאפילו אני הייתי צריכה לחפש בגוגל, אז אני מניחה שמי שלא יהודי כנראה ירגיש תסכול… 🙈

זה סיפור של אויבים לאוהבים עם עלילה קלילה ומתוקה (ומאוד צפוייה) הכתוב בגוף שלישי. 🕎
אם בא לכם לקרוא ספר רומנטי וקיטצ'י על חג מהמם שלא מקבל במה בספרות הרומנטית… זה הספר עבורכם! 💥

ולמקרה שתהיתם… גם אבא שלי מאוד נהנה מהספר הזה. אמנם הוא התלונן על כמה בחירות תרגום וניסוחים, אבל הוא בהחלט מחכה לקרוא את הספר הבא של הסופרת. 😍
