Well, the beginning was so promising! Full of pain and emotionally charged, it was a combination of sweetness and darkness all at the same time. 💙
I liked the writing style, the characters were strong, the story was good. But something was missing… maybe the plot should have been a little tighter, because a lot of things were said, but not done. 🤷‍♀️

There were also quite a few times that their relationship made me uncomfortable. For example, when they first met, Rylee was 10 and Killian was 11, and he wondered how her tongue would feel on his. SAY WHAT?? 🙈🙈🙈
And even after they grew up, their first sexual encounter was completely non-consensual as far as I was concerned.

I enjoyed reading about their relationship, which grew stronger and stronger during the first half of the book. I so wanted Killian to find his peace, understand what's really important and just let go… But I didn't like to the second part of the story, it was messy and took a completely different turn. 🤔

The hero was almost a different person. I understand that the author wanted to show that the characters grew and changed, but the execution was not good (and certainly not believable). 🤷‍♀️
I didn't get any real answers as to why he disappeared for so many years and it was hard for me to believe that this sweet broken boy did whatever he did…
Additionally, his thoughts suddenly included a lot of foul language and it didn't fit his character and certainly didn't contribute to the plot. 🙄

All in all, I think this book had a lot of potential, which was not used… 🙈

• I listened to the Audiobook, which was good. It took me a while to get used to the male narrator's whiny voice, but I love hearing audio with both narrators participating in the same chapter. ❤️

הוא מבלה את זמנו לבדו ביער מאחורי בית דודתו עם לוח הציור שלו… עד שריילי אנדרסון המתוקה והסקרנית ראתה אותו מדלג מעל הגדר, ועקבה אחריו. 💙
החברות ביניהם הייתה מיידית, הוא תקשר איתה דרך פתקים שרשם במחברת שלו – ובמשך השנים, החברות הפכה לאהבה. אך קיליאן לא יכול להרפות מעברו ולא מצליח להחליט מה חשוב יותר. שנאה או אהבה? נקמה או סליחה? להמשיך לחיות בשתיקה או להשמיע את קולו? 😱

ההתחלה הייתה ממש מבטיחה! מלאת אמוציות וכל כך טעונה רגשית, זה היה שילוב של מתיקות וכאב בו זמנית. 💙
אהבתי את סגנון הכתיבה, הדמויות היו חזקות, הסיפור היה טוב. אבל משהו היה חסר… אולי העלילה צריכה להיות קצת יותר מהודקת, כי המון דברים נאמרו, אך לא נעשו. 🤷‍♀️

היו גם לא מעט פעמים שהקשר שלהם גרם לי לאי נוחות. למשל, כשהם רק הכירו, ריילי הייתה בת 10 וקיליאן בן 11, והוא תהה איך הלשון שלה תרגיש על הלשון שלו… מממ מההה?? 🙈🙈🙈
בנוסף, גם אחרי שהתבגרו, האקט הראשון שלהם לא היה בדיוק בהסכמה מבחינתי.

נהניתי לקרוא על הקשר שלהם, שהתחזק וגדל במהלך המחצית הראשונה של הספר. כל כך רציתי שקיליאן ימצא את שלוותו, יבין מה באמת חשוב וישחרר… אבל לחלק השני של הסיפור לא התחברתי, הוא היה מבולגן וקיבל כיוון שונה לחלוטין. 🤔
הגיבור היה כמעט אדם אחר. ברור לי שהסופרת רצתה להראות שהדמויות גדלו והשתנו, אך הביצוע לא היה מוצלח (וגם לא אמין). 🤷‍♀️
לא קיבלתי תשובות אמיתיות לשאלה מדוע הוא נעלם לכל כך הרבה שנים והיה קשה לי להאמין שהילד השבור המתוק הזה עשה כל מה שעשה…
וגם, המונולוג הפנימי שלו כלל פתאום שפה מאוד גסה. זה לא התאים לדמות ובטח שלא תרם לעלילה. 🙄

לסיכום, אני חושבת שהיה לספר הזה המון פוטנציאל, שלא נוצל… 🙈

• ‏זמין כרגע באנגלית בלבד, אך יתורגם בקרוב לעברית ע"י 'ספרות שנוגעת'.  🔤
• הקשבתי לספר באודיו, שהיה טוב. לקח לי קצת זמן להתרגל לקול הבכייני של הקריין הגברי, אבל אני אוהבת לשמוע אודיו שיתוף של שני הקריינים באותו הפרק. ❤️
