We gave our favorite authors a questionnaire with 10 questions we really wanted to know… And they spilled everything! (Sort of 😂)

I'm Kim.
I like reading, dogs, Merle Haggard, laughing, playing cards, smoking cigarettes, not working, never doing laundry and food.
I also write books.
And I think writing a biography about myself is the weirdest part of being an author.

Hi Kim,
We are so excited to have you in our 'Ask our favorite author' questionnaire!

Hey y’all! Thanks for having me!

1. Describe a normal working day – how many hours a day do you write? Where is your favorite place to write?
Normal…HA! There is absolutely nothing normal about my work day. I don’t even have a scheduled time when I write. I just wing it. And everything else in my life. I have this office with a huge desk and a fancy “fat girl” writing chair and all the essential oils/coffee/mood lighting a writer could ask for. And I sit in an old wicker chair, under my carport, soaked in mosquito spray with my laptop, coffee/Mountain Dew and cigarettes.

2. Share something your readers wouldn’t know about you.
I’m pretty much an open book. If something in my life is interesting, I share it. I don’t have a private life, lol.

3. What inspires you to write?
I’ve always loved telling stories. Sometimes I stare at people in airports or grocery stores and think, “Man, I bet their life would be a good story.” After I tried to interview a few strangers who walked away from me with a strange look on their face, I decided to just give them the story I wanted them to have. Some of my writing notes start with, “Dude from LAX with purple BEATS who smelled like pot.”

4. If you didn’t write, what would you do for a living?
Something easy. Like flipping burgers at McDonalds. Just something to pay the bills. I’m a pretty simple person.

5. If one of your books could become a movie – which one would you choose?
Sinner’s Creed. It has it all—action, romance, suspense and tragedy. I’ve even attempted to write a screen play.

6. There's good news and bad news – who is the first author friend you call?
I’m not a one-author-friend woman, lol. I have three. I call them all until I get the reaction I was looking for. And it’s usually the same three—Colleen Hoover, M.N. Forgy and Rose Hudson.

7. Do you hide any secrets in your books that only a few people will find?
I don’t really “hide” anything, but every single book of mine has a damsel-in-distress scene that takes place in a bar. But there was the Kim Jones’ Box Fan I referenced in That Guy. It’s been highlighted a few times.

8. The last book translated into Hebrew was "That Guy" (WE LOVED IT!!!). If you need to choose, which one should be the next to be translated?
I first have to say that of all my foreign deals, this one was most exciting for me. I was like, “OMG! God’s chosen people want my book!” Then it freaked me out and I had to pray about it. It went something like, “Please, Lord, don’t be angry at me for exposing them to this smut.” Hopefully, my next book will be translated—the sequel to That Guy.

9. How do you choose your covers?
It’s not a big process for me. I just think of the story and what I want the cover to say about it.

10. Finally, Tell us about your future project – What can you share about it?
I’ve been working on the sequel to That Guy for what feels like forever. It’s called My Girl. And, hopefully, it’ll be out in the next few months. This story will be Emily and Cam’s story. I think I’m more excited about it than I was That Guy!

ואני חושבת שלכתוב ביוגרפיה על עצמי זה הדבר הכי מוזר בלהיות סופרת.
בישראל, הספר שלה "מר סוואגר" תורגם לעברית ע"י הוצאת 'ידיעות ספרים' וזכה לביקורות נלהבות מהקוראות.

קים: היי לכן! תודה שאתן מארחות אותי!

1. תארי יום עבודה רגיל- כמה שעות ביום את כותבת? איפה המקום האהוב עלייך לכתוב?
נורמלי…הא! אין שום דבר נורמלי ביום העבודה שלי. אין לי אפילו לו"ז קבוע לכתיבה. אני פשוט זורמת עם זה, כמו כל דבר אחר בחיים שלי.
יש לי משרד עם שולחן עבודה ענק וכיסא מהודר וכל הדברים שסופרת יכולה לרצות, שמנים ארומטיים/ קפה/ תאורת אוירה. אני יושבת בכיסא נצרים ישן מתחת לשטיח שלי, שספוג בספריי נגד יתושים עם המחשב נייד, עם קפה/ הר בדלים של סיגריות.

2 שתפי אותנו במשהו שהקוראים לא יודעים עלייך.
אני די כמו ספר פתוח. אם משהו בחיים שלי מעניין, אני אשתף אותו. אין לי חיים פרטיים, Lol.

3. מה נותן לך השראה לכתוב?
אני תמיד אהבתי לכתוב סיפורים. לפעמים אני בוהה באנשים בשדה התעופה או במכולת וחושבת, "בחיי אני בטוחה שהחיים שלהם יכולים להיות סיפור טוב".
אחרי שניסיתי לראיין כמה אנשים זרים שהתרחקו ממני עם הבעה מוזרה על הפנים, החלטתי פשוט לכתוב להם את הסיפור שאני רוצה שיהיה להם. חלק מפתקי הכתיבה שלי מתחילים ב- "בחור משדה התעופה עם אוזניות סגולות שהריח כמו חשיש".

4. אם לא היית סופרת, מה היית עושה למחייתך?
משהו קל. כמו להפוך המבורגרים במקדונלדס. רק כדי לשלם את החשבונות. אני אדם די פשוט.

5. אם אחד מספרייך היה יכול להפוך לסרט, איזה מהם היית בוחרת?
"Sinner’s Creed". יש בו הכל – אקשן, רומנטיקה, מתח וטרגדיה. אפילו ניסיתי לכתוב תסריט עבורו.

6. קיבלת חדשות טובות וחדשות רעות. למי מחברותייך הסופרות תתקשרי קודם?
אני לא אישה של סופרת חברה אחת, Lol. יש לי שלוש אני מתקשרת אליהם עד שאני מקבלת את התגובה שאני מחפשת. וזה בדרך כלל אותן שלוש סופרות – קולין הובר, אם. אן פורגי ורוז הדסון.

7. האם את מחביאה סודות בתוך הספרים שלך שרק אנשים בודדים יכולים למצוא?
אני לא באמת "מחביאה" שום דבר, אבל בכל ספר שלי יש סצנה של "העלמה במצוקה" שמתרחשת בבר. אבל היתה התייחסות ל'קופסת המעריצים של קים ג׳ונס' בספר "מר סוואגר" וזה הודגש כמה פעמים.

8. הספר האחרון שלך שתורגם לעברית היה "מר סוואגר" (עפנו עליו!!) . אם היית צריכה לבחור, איזה ספר צריך להיות הבא בתור לתרגום?
אני קודם כל חייבת לומר שמכל החוזים הזרים שחתמתי, זה החוזה שהכי ריגש אותי. אני כאילו, "או מיי גאד! העם הנבחר רוצה את הספר שלי!" ואז זה חירפן אותי והייתי חייבת להתפלל על זה וזה הלך כמו משהו כזה, "בבקשה אלוהים, אל תכעס עליי שאני חושפת אותם לתועבה הזו".
בתקווה שהספר הבא שיתורגם יהיה ההמשך של "מר סוואגר".

9. כיצד את בוחרת את הכריכות שלך?
זה לא כזה תהליך גדול מבחינתי אני רק חושבת על הסיפור ומה אני רוצה שהכריכה תספר עליו.

10. לסיום, ספרי לנו על הפרוייקט הבא שלך – מה את יכולה לשתף עליו?
אני עובדת על המשך ל"מר סוואגר" במשך מה שמרגיש כמו נצח. יקראו לזה My Girl. ואני מאוד מקווה שהוא ייצא בחודשים הקרובים. הספר יספר את סיפורם של אמילי וקאם. אני חושבת שאני יותר מתרגשת לקראתו יותר מאשר ההתרגשות כשהייתה לי על מר סוואגר.
