We gave our favorite authors a questionnaire with 10 questions we really wanted to know… And they spilled everything! (Sort of 😂)

When she’s not putting her characters through hell, she can usually be found watching bizarre and twisted documentaries in the name of research.

We are so excited to have you in our 'Ask our favorite author' questionnaire!

1. Describe a normal working day – how many hours a day do you write? Where is your favorite place to write?
This depends on where I’m at in the process. If I’m plotting or editing those are really labor-intensive days. My plotting process can take up to a month and so can the editing, so those days are typically very long. If I’m on a deadline that can influence my schedule too. It’s not uncommon for me to work around 10-12 hour days when I’m plotting or editing. But the writing is much easier for me. Once I have a good idea of where I’m going I can usually reach my daily word goal within about six hours. I try to write first thing during the day and then take a break in the afternoon and come back to it with fresh eyes. Once I’m done with those things I will spend the rest of my day catching up on the business side of things (emails, promotions, social media, craft materials, etc). 
My favorite place to write is on my couch. I do have an office with a desk but my dog likes to be next to me all the time so most of the time I’m either writing on the couch or my backyard if it’s a nice day. 

2. Share something your readers wouldn’t know about you.
I grew up in a rural area of Montana in the era of no cell phones and AOL internet. We didn’t have a lot to do as kids for entertainment so we had to create our own. My best friends and I would play in the mountains and paint with wildflowers and re-enact movie scenes that we memorized. I spent so much time outdoors that I really appreciate the way I grew up because I think it gave me a great imagination. 

3. What inspires you to write?
Usually, it’s just a spark of something. I will often see or hear something and it gives me the tiniest hint of an idea and I start to obsess over it until that idea snowballs into an entire plot. 

4. If you didn’t write, what would you do for a living?
When I first started college I majored in psychology but I later went to school for business instead. I didn’t really know what I wanted to do, but I had a lot of different work experiences from a young age. Before I started writing I worked in group homes and technical support. I think if I wasn’t writing now I would want to work with animals in some capacity. 

5. If one of your books could become a movie – which one would you choose?
I would love to see the entire Boston Underworld series as movies or TV series. I think that would be amazing. But if I had to choose just one I suppose it would be Crow because he was my first mafia hero. 

6. There's good news and bad news – who is the first author friend you call?
I have a few. I talk regularly with KI Lynn, Natasha Knight, and Ashley Jade. They all give great advice and they are just good people. 

7. Do you hide any secrets in your books that only a few people will find?
I think a lot of the personality traits from the characters and even some of their backgrounds are pulled from my life or my friends and family, or just people I’ve met along the way. Sometimes people who know me well can find those little hints and they will mention them. 

8.  The last book translated into Hebrew was "Crow" (WE LOVED IT!!!). If you need to choose, which one should be the next to be translated? (Not from the 'Boston Underworld' Series)
I would love to see Confess translated next. It’s not mafia, but I love the characters in this series. 

9. Do you read your book reviews? How do you deal with bad or good ones?
I’ve developed my own process over the years and now I only tend to read ARC reviews. After the book is released, it’s out in the world and I just let it do its thing. But occasionally I will still get tagged in bad reviews on social media and I’ve just learned to shrug it off. What I write won’t be everyone’s cup of tea and I’m okay with that. The good reviews I will often save because it means a lot to me when someone loves one of my books. All the time and effort I put into the stories are worth it when I get those good reviews.

10. Finally, Tell us about your future project – What can you share about it?
Right now, I’m working on Kodiak’s story in the Sin City Series. I’m really excited about this story and I can share a few small details. It will be an enemies to lovers theme with a twist. I think this book will make the reader question what they think they know about the characters until the end (at least, that’s what I’m hoping for).

אנחנו כל כך מתרגשות לארח אותך בפינה שלנו!

1. תתארי לנו יום עבודה רגיל – כמה שעות ביום את כותבת? איפה המקום האהוב עלייך לכתוב?
זה תלוי איפה אני נמצאת בתהליך. כאשר אני עורכת או בונה את העלילה אלו ימים מאד אינטנסיביים וקדחניים. בניית עלילה יכולה לקחת עד חודש וכך גם העריכה, אז הימים האלו בדרך כלל מאד ארוכים. אם אני על דד ליין זה גם יכול להשפיע לי על הלו"ז. כשאני עורכת או עובדת על העלילה, לרוב אני עובדת 10-12 שעות ביום. אבל הכתיבה עצמה הרבה יותר קלה עבורי. ברגע שיש לי רעיון טוב לאן הסיפור מתקדם אני בדרך כלל יכולה להגיע למספר המילים שאני מקציבה לעצמי ביום, בשש שעות. אני משתדלת להתחיל את היום בכתיבה ואז לוקחת הפסקה בצהריים וחוזרת לזה עם ראש נקי. ברגע שאני מסיימת עם הדברים האלו, את שארית היום אני משקיעה על הצד היותר עיסקי (אימיילים, קידומים, מדיה חברתית, חומרי יצירה וכו')
המקום האהוב עליי ביותר לכתוב הוא הספה. יש לי משרד עם שולחן כתיבה אבל הכלב שלי אוהב להיות לידי כל הזמן לכן רוב הזמן אני כותבת על הספה או בחצר האחורית אם יש יום נעים.

2. שתפי אותנו במשהו שהקוראים לא יודעים עלייך.
גדלתי באיזור כפרי במונטנה בו לא היו טלפונים ניידים או אינטרנט. בתור ילדים לא היתה לנו הרבה תעסוקה אז היינו צריכים למצוא דרכים להעסיק את עצמנו. אני וחבריי הטובים היינו משחקים בהרים, מציירים עם פרחי בר ומשחזרים סצנות מסרטים שידענו בעל פה. ביליתי כל-כך הרבה זמן בחוץ ואני מאד מעריכה את הדרך בה גדלתי, אני חושבת שזה מה שנתן לדימיון שלי להתפתח.

3 . מה נותן לך השראה לכתיבה?
בדרך כלל, זה רק ניצוץ של משהו. אני לעיתים אשמע משהו וזה ייתן לי רמז קטנטן של רעיון ואז אני מתחילה להיות אובססיבית עליו עד שהרעיון הזה הופך לסיפור שלם.

4. אם לא היית סופרת מה היית עושה למחייתך?
כשהתחלתי ללמוד בקולג' המקצוע העיקרי שלמדתי היה פסיכולוגיה אבל אח"כ הלכתי למכללה לעסקים במקום. לא באמת ידעתי מה אני רוצה לעשות. אבל היה לי ניסיון עבודה בהמון תחומים מגיל צעיר. לפני שהתחלתי לכתוב עבדתי במרכז מגורים טיפולי ובתמיכה טכנית. אני חושבת שאם לא הייתי סופרת הייתי רוצה לעבוד עם חיות.

5. אילו אחד מספרייך היה יכול להפוך לסרט – איזה מהם היית בוחרת?
הייתי מאד שמחה לראות את כל סדרת "העולם התחתון של בוסטון" כסרט או כסדרה. אני חושבת שזה יהיה מדהים. אבל אם הייתי צריכה לבחור רק אחד הייתי בוחרת ב"קרואו" בגלל שהוא המאפיונר הראשון שכתבתי.

6. קיבלת חדשות טובות וחדשות רעות, מי הסופרת הראשונה אליה את מתקשרת?
יש לי כמה, אני מדברת קבוע עם קיי.איי לין, נטשה נייט ואשלי ג'ייד. הן כולן נותנות עצות מעולות והן פשוט נשים טובות.

7. האם את מחביאה סודות בתוך הספרים שלך שרק מעט אנשים יודעים?
אני חושבת שהרבה מתכונות האופי של הדמויות ואפילו חלק מסיפור הרקע שלהם נלקחים מחיי או ממשפחתי וחברים, או אנשים שהכרתי במהלך חיי. לפעמים אנשים שמכירים אותי היטב יכולים למצוא רמזים קטנים והם יציינו אותם בפניי. 

8. ספרך האחרון שתורגם לעברית היה "קרואו" (עפנו עליו!) . אם היית צריכה לבחור, איזה ספר היית בוחרת לתרגם אחריו? (לא מתוך סדרת "העולם התחתון של בוסטון)
היית שמחה לראות את "Confess" מתורגם, הוא לא סיפור מאפיה אבל אני אוהבת את הדמויות בסדרה הזו.

9.האם את קוראת ביקורות? כיצד את מתמודדת עם הביקורות הטובות והשליליות?
במהלך השנים פיתחתי את התהליך שלי וכיום אני נוטה לקרוא רק ביקורות של קוראי ARC. אחרי שהספר יוצא, אז הוא כבר יצא לעולם ואני נותנת לו לעשות את שלו. אבל לעיתים אני מתוייגת בביקורות רעות במדיה החברתית ופשוט למדתי לעבור הלאה. מה שאני כותבת לא יהיה לטעמם של כולם ואני בסדר עם זה. את הביקורות הטובות אני לעיתים קרובות שומרת בגלל שזה מאד נוגע בי כשמישהו אוהב את הספרים שלי. כל הזמן והמאמץ שאני שמה בספרים שלי שווים את זה כשאני מקבלת את הביקורות הטובות האלו.

10. לסיום, ספרי לנו על הפרוייקט הבא שלך – מה את יכולה לשתף אותנו עליו?
כרגע אני עובדת על סיפורו של קודיאק מתוך סדרת "Sin City". אני מאד מתרגשת לקראת הספר הזה ויכולה לשתף בקצת פרטים. זה יהיה רומן "מאוהבים לשונאים" אבל עם טוויסט. אני חושבת שהספר יגרום לקוראים לפקפק במה שהם חושבים שהם יודעים על הדמויות עד סופו (זה לפחות מה שאני מקווה.)
