Kandi Steiner is a Creative Writing and Advertising/Public Relations graduate from the University of Central Florida living in Tampa. Kandi started writing back in the 4th grade after reading the first Harry Potter installment. In 6th grade, she wrote and edited her own newspaper and distributed to her classmates. Eventually, the principal caught on and the newspaper was quickly halted, though Kandi tried fighting for her "freedom of press." She took particular interest in writing romance after college, as she has always been a die-hard hopeless romantic (like most girls brought up on Disney movies). When Kandi isn't working or writing, you can find her reading books of all kinds, talking with her extremely vocal cat, and spending time with her friends and family. She enjoys beach days, movie marathons, live music, craft beer and sweet wine – not necessarily in that order.

We are so excited to have you in our 'Ask our favorite author' questionnaire!
1. Could you start off by telling us a little bit about your up-coming release, "Make Me Hate You"?
Sure! Make Me Hate You is an emotional, angsty stand-alone. It's a best friend's brother's romance, which is a trope I've ALWAYS wanted to write. In this story, Jasmine is back in her New England hometown for the first time in 7 years. She's been avoiding her best friend's brother since the night they crossed all the lines the summer after her high school year, and then he broke her heart, rejecting her just days later. But now, she's back in town — in the same HOUSE with him — and as much as she wants to hate him, she can't help but be drawn to him and what used to be.
2. Your covers are all AMAZING! How do you choose them?
I actually use Lauren Perry of Perrywinkle photography for custom photo shoots. We talk about my book, the vibe, what the characters look like, and then she casts the models and we have the shoot. Fun fact: almost all of my covers feature real life couples. For instance, the couple on the cover of Make Me Hate You got engaged the day before this shoot!
3. Have you always wanted to be a writer? If you didn’t write, what would you do for a living?
I have wanted to be a writer since I was in the fourth grade, I'd say. Of course, I had other ideas, since I definitely never expected to be able to make money off my writing LOL. I wanted to be a vet for a long time, and then that slowly transitioned into advertising/public relations. I knew I wanted to write and speak and work with the public. But, writing was where my heart truly lived, and I pursued it with a passion.
4. What did you do with your first advance?
I actually don't get advances, except for my foreign deals. I'm a self-published author, which means I don't make anything up front. I publish my book and hope for the best! All my money comes in on release day and after. However, I do remember my first significant paycheck from Amazon. It was after Weightless came out in 2016, and I went grocery shopping without using coupons. I also bought myself a Michael Kors purse, which I still have!
5. The last book translated into Hebrew was "A Love Letter to Whiskey". If you need to choose, which one should be the next to be translated?
Judging by the way the readers in Israel reacted to A Love Letter to Whiskey, I'd say Make Me Hate You or the Best Kept Secrets series.
6. Do you Google yourself?
Ha! Sometimes, just to make sure the information on Google is correct. 🙂
7. There's good news and bad news – who is the first author friend you call?
Staci Hart, hands down. She's my ride or die!
8. If one of your books could become a movie – which one would you choose?
A Love Letter to Whiskey, of course! We all want to see Jamie Shaw come to life, don't we? 😉
9. Do you believe in writer’s block?
I do. I think usually it's less about the story and more about the mental health of the writer. If we don't take care of ourselves first, it's very difficult to create.
10. Finally, Tell us about your future project – What can you share about it?
Aside from Make Me Hate You, I also have Ritual coming out in July. Ritual is book 5 in the Palm South University series. Palm South University is a new adult/college romance series. It's PACKED with angst, steam, and drama. If you're looking for your next addiction, THIS IS IT. And now is the PERFECT time to get caught up. קנדי סטיינר היא בוגרת לימודיי כתיבה יוצרת ויחסי ציבור מאוניברסיטת פלורידה וגרה בטמפה, פלורידה. קנדי התחילה לכתוב כבר בכיתה ד' כאשר קראה את הספר הראשון של "הארי פוטר".
בכיתה ו' היא כתבה וערכה עיתון משלה והפיצה אותו בין חבריה לכיתה. בסופו של דבר המנהל עלה על הרעיון ומיהר לעצור אותה, למרות שקנדי ניסתה להילחם על "חופש העיתונות". אחרי הקולג' היא התעניינה בעיקר בכתיבת רומנים, מאחר והיא תמיד הייתה רומנטיקנית ללא תקנה (כמו רוב הבנות שגדלו על סרטי דיסני). כשהיא אינה עובדת או כותבת, תוכלו למצוא אותה קוראת ספרים מכל הסוגים, מדברת עם החתול הקולני שלה ומבלה את זמנה עם חברים ומשפחה. היא נהנית מימים על החוף, מרתון סרטים, מוזיקה חיה, בירה, ויין מתוק – לא בהכרח בסדר הזה.
בישראל, הספר שלה "מכתב אהבה לוויסקי" תורגם לעברית ע"י הוצאת 'ספרות שנוגעת' וזכה לביקורות נלהבות.

1. תוכלי להתחיל בלספר לנו על הספר שעתיד לצאת בקרוב "Make Me Hate You"?
בוודאי! "Make Me Hate You" הוא רומן בודד מרגש ודרמתי, זהו רומן "האח של החבר/ה הכי טוב/ה", שזה תת ז'אנר שתמיד רציתי לכתוב. בסיפור שלנו, ג'סמין חוזרת לעיירת ילדותה בניו-אינגלנד לראשונה אחרי 7 שנים. היא מתחמקת מהאח של חברתה הטובה מאז שהם חצו את כל הקווים בקיץ שאחרי סיום התיכון. ואז הוא שבר את ליבה ודחה אותה כמה ימים לאחר מכן. אבל עכשיו היא חזרה לעיירה ולאותו הבית יחד איתו, ולמרות שהיא רוצה לשנוא אותו, היא לא יכולה שלא להימשך אליו ולמה שהיה בעבר.
2. כל הכריכות שלך מדהימות! כיצד את בוחרת אותן?
האמת שאני מעצבת אותם יחד עם לורן פרי מ- "Perrywinkle photography for custom photo shoots". אנחנו מדברות על הספר, על האווירה, על איך הדמויות נראות ואז היא מלהקת את הדוגמנים ואנו מתחילים בצלומים. עובדה כייפית: כמעט בכל הכריכות שלי, הדוגמנים הם זוגות אמיתיים. לדוגמא: הזוג על הכריכה של "Make Me Hate You" התארס יום לפני הצילומים.
3. האם תמיד רצית להיות סופרת? אם לא היית סופרת מה היית עושה למחייתך?
רציתי להיות סופרת מאז כיתה ד'. היו לי רעיונות אחרים, מאחר ומעולם לא ציפיתי להרוויח מכתיבה LOL. במשך, הרבה זמן רציתי להיות וטרינרית ואז לאט לאט זה השתנה ליחסי ציבור. ידעתי שאני רוצה לכתוב, לדבר ולעבוד עם אנשים, אבל כתיבה היא המקום אליו הלב שייך, ואני רדפתי אחרי זה בתשוקה .
4. מה עשית עם המקדמה הראשונה שלך?
האמת שאני לא מקבלת מקדמות חוץ מההוצאות הזרות. אני סופרת עצמאית, מה שאומר שאני לא מרוויחה שום דבר מראש, אני מוציאה את הספר שלי ומקוה לטוב! כל הכסף מגיע ביום יצאת הספר או אחריו, למרות זאת, אני כן זוכרת את השכר המשמעותי הראשון שקיבלתי מאמזון, זה היה אחרי ש- "Weightless" יצא ב- 2016, והלכתי לקנות מצרכים בלי קופונים וגם קניתי לעצמי תיק של מייקל קורס. שנמצא אצלי עד היום.
5. ספרך האחרון שתורגם לעברית היה "מכתב אהבה לוויסקי" אילו יכולת לבחור, מה היה הבא בתור לתרגום?
אם לשפוט לפי הצורה בה הגיבו בישראל ל"מכתב אהבה לוויסקי", הייתי אומרת ש- "Make Me Hate You" או סדרת "The Best Kept Secrets".
6.האם את מחפשת את שמך בגוגל?
הא! לפעמים, רק כדי לוודא שהמידע בגוגל מדויק.
7. יש חדשות טובות וחדשות רעות, מי הסופרת אליה תתקשרי?
סטייסי הארט, ללא ספק, היא איתי באש ובמים!
8. אילו אחד הספרים שלך היה יכול להפוך לסרט, איזה ספר היית בוחרת?
מכתב אהבה לוויסקי, כמובן! כולנו רוצים לראות את ג'יימי שו מתעורר לחיים. נכון?!(;
9. האם את מאמינה במחסום כתיבה?
כן, אני חושבת שזה בדר"כ לא קשור לסיפור אלא יותר לבריאות הנפשית של הסופרת. אם אנחנו לא מטפלים בעצמנו קודם, מאד קשה ליצור.
10.לסיום, ספרי לנו על הפרוייקט הבא שלך, מה תוכלי לשתף איתנו עליו.
