Give it up to – Amy Harmon! ๐Ÿ‘‘๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ‘

Amy Harmon is a Wall Street Journal, USA Today, and New York Times Bestselling author. Her books have been published in eighteen languages, truly a dream come true for a little country girl from Utah.

Hi Amy,
We are so excited to have you in our 'Ask our favorite author' questionnaire!

1. Describe a normal working dayโ€ฆ How many hours a day do you write? Where is your favorite place to write?
Describe a normal working day: I am a mother of four children, and I find I don't have many normal working days. I write when I can fit it in. When my youngest are in school, I try to write when they are there, when the house is quiet. I am lucky enough to be able to write as my full-time job. I usually have a word count I try to reach each day. That helps me progress, even when I can't spend as much time working as I'd like.
How many hours a day do you write: That depends on where I'm at in a project. I find that the last two months before a deadline, I am writing almost constantly. I struggle to start new novels, to get into a pace, but once I am really immersed, I sometimes write for twelve hours a day. I enjoy those days when the novel is maturing and growing at a dizzying rate.

2. Share something your readers wouldnโ€™t know about you.
Something my readers wouldn't know about me is that I love to sing and write songs. If I couldn't write novels, I would write songs.

3. What's the best book you've read recently?
I read a compilation of poetry by Maya Angelou that I enjoyed greatly. She has an almost spiritual style, like she is praying or talking to herself. I enjoy her poetry very much.

4. Have you always wanted to be a writer? If you didnโ€™t write, what would you do for a living?
Yes. The writing has taken many forms–poetry, music, essays, articles–but writing has always been my medium. If I couldn't write, I think I would teach.

5. Where do go to get inspired?
I find inspiration in everything. A song on the radio, a conversation among friends, stories people tell me, even family history. Ideas are everywhere. As far as getting motivated, I struggle with that, just like everyone else, but I always manage to chip away until I can find a rhythm and I refuse to give up.

6. What was your first reaction when you reached the #1 Best-selling's list?
When I hit the New York Times Bestsellers List it was a very emotional moment for me. But I am a very even tempered and unexcitable person. So I wept a little, prayed a little, and then I went back to work. It was a great accomplishment, but our future can't be built on past accomplishments, and I knew the most important thing was to write more books and not rest on my laurels.

7. How many books have you published? And how many unpublished and half-finished books do you have?
I have written 16 novels and all but one has been published (one is scheduled for publication in March of 2021). I have no novels that are unpublished, beyond the one I am writing at the moment, and nothing that is sitting unfinished. I do not abandon manuscripts. That is a rule I have for myself. I finish what I start.

8. Do you read your book reviews? How do you deal with bad or good ones?
I read them on Amazon when they are first starting to come in after publication. I never comment and I don't read reviews on sites like Goodreads that I feel are just for readers. I stop reading them all after the first month or so after publication. It doesn't do much good to believe the glowing reviews or the harshly critical reviews. Both can be very destructive.

9.The last book translated into Hebrew was "What the Wind Knows". If you need to choose, which one should be the next to be translated?
I would love for 'The Bird and the Sword', 'The Queen and the Cure', and 'The First Girl Child' to be published in Hebrew. They are fairy tales and I think my readers would love them.

10. Finally, Tell us about your future projects – What can you share about them?
The novel I just finished that will be releasing in English in March of 2021 is a book called 'The Songbook of Benny Lament'. It is the story of a songwriter, a pianist, set in the 1960s. I am working on a sequel to 'The First Girl Child', the fairytale, at the moment. It's called The Second Blind Son.

Thank you for answering our questionnaire, we can't wait to find out what you have in store for us next! XOXO from Israel ๐Ÿ’™
